President William Ruto will welcome Guinea Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embaló to Kenya on Saturday. Embaló is coming for a state visit.
Ruto will greet Embaló at State House Nairobi. This will happen just after Ruto finishes a five-day trip to Western Kenya.
Embaló will receive a formal military welcome on Saturday morning. As a visiting head of state, he will be given high honors.
Embaló's visit to Kenya comes about a year after Ruto went to Guinea Bissau. Ruto was there for three days last April.
During that trip, the two presidents talked about ways to boost trade. They wanted to get businesses more involved in areas like farming and technology.
Last year, Kenya and Guinea-Bissau agreed to take big steps to increase their trade. Ruto said trade was low but could get much better.
He pointed to the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement. It could help the business grow.
Kenya and Guinea-Bissau want to implement a deal they made in 2022, which established a Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC).
Ruto said more collaboration between private companies in the two countries would be a big help and could increase trade.
When Ruto was in Guinea Bissau last April, Embaló gave him the country's highest medal.
The two leaders said the JCC would help them collaborate on many important issues, including security, farming, fishing, and the environment.
Ruto also said he would start direct flights between Kenya and Guinea-Bissau. This would be good for trade and ties between people.
In September, Ruto and Embaló met in Beijing, China. They talked about Raila Odinga's campaign to lead the African Union Commission.
Odinga's bid for the AU job is likely to come up again when the two presidents meet on Saturday.
