Rwanda road upgrade nears finish amid whispers of backroom deals

Workers have almost finished building a new road in Rwanda. They have paved 67 kilometers between Kibugabuga and Gasoro. This road helps people travel between the Eastern Province and Southern Province. The builders say they will finish everything by March 2025.

People can already drive on this new road. It lets them travel between two big cities without going through Kigali, which is Rwanda's biggest city. This makes their trips much shorter. Before this road was built, people had to use dirt roads that became very muddy when it rained.

The new road makes life easier for many people. Justin Nyandwi lives near the road and needs to travel to buy and sell cows at a market. He says the old dirt road made traveling very hard, but the new road will make his trips much easier. Another person, Divine Kubwimana, owns a business nearby. She thinks the new road will help her sell more things because people can reach her shop more easily.

This road is part of a bigger project to build better roads in Rwanda. The builders are making 123 kilometers of new roads to connect different areas. These roads will help trucks carry things between Rwanda and other nearby countries like Tanzania. There is a very long road called the Central Corridor that goes through Tanzania. It helps people from many countries like Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and DR Congo move their things to a big port called Dar es Salaam.

The new road helps farmers take their food to markets, helps business owners sell more things, and makes it easier for everyone to visit their friends and family who live far away. The road brings many good changes to all the people who live near it.
