Kenya plans to upgrade more than 230 kilometers of highway between Nairobi and Mau Summit through a public-private partnership valued at 180 billion shillings. China Road and Bridge Corporation will work with the National Social Security Fund to expand the A8 corridor into dual carriageways with six-lane sections near Nakuru. Motorists will pay eight shillings per kilometer when the road opens in 2028, with fees rising one percent each year under a 30-year agreement.
The project adds 15 interchanges, eight footbridges, and 118 bus stops along routes connecting the capital to western regions. Contractors will complete construction within two years after breaking ground before January 2026. The government selected this consortium over a competitor that proposed higher tolls of 10 shillings per kilometer with steeper annual increases.
