Nairobi Nakuru Highway Nightmare Strands Drivers

Cars stayed stuck for 15 hours between Lanet and Naivasha last weekend. Hundreds spent Friday night sleeping inside their vehicles when rain caused a massive backup. Many travelers missed important meetings or just turned around after waiting all night. Police said the trouble started around 6 p.m. Friday and lasted until 11 a.m. Saturday. Heavy rain fell for four hours across Nakuru City,, making roads slippery.

Two small crashes near Baruk and Soysambu areas made things worse. According to road officials, drivers who cut lines added hours to the delay. Teams from the highway authority and safety groups came to help fix the mess. Police spokesman Michael Muchiri said they added more officers along that stretch. Road agency KeNHA told people about other routes through Gilgil and the Flyover.

Locals asked the government to hurry up and make the highway wider. Traffic on this road often stops during holiday times, and some drivers waste money on gas sitting all night going nowhere. Similar problems happen often because more cars use that highway each year. Traffic boss Fred Ochieng promised to stop lane jumpers next time.
