Eighteen big companies want to build factories in a special place called Sagana in Kirinyaga. Governor Anne Waiguru picked these companies from fifty-four that wanted to come. These factories will make things from farm products, leather, and cloth to sell to other countries.
Governor Waiguru met with Lee Kinyanjui, who helps businesses come to Kenya. They looked at the new factory area together. The governor said people can rent land and buildings there. Workers have already started building the first part of this special area where companies will make things.
The Sagana factory area sits on a big piece of land that will also have new houses for people. Workers are building six big storage buildings and two cold rooms. They will finish these buildings at the end of March. The national government and county government share the cost of building everything, which needs five hundred million shillings.
This project will create many jobs. More than ten thousand people will work in the factories, and many farmers will sell their crops to these factories. Other businesses, like banks, shops, and hotels, will open there. Governor Waiguru wants this area to become an industrial city by 2032.
Mr Kinyanjui liked what he saw at Sagana. He wants the builders to work faster and finish by May. He said places like Kirinyaga can help Kenya make more of its food instead of buying from other countries. Kenya has made deals to sell things to America, China, and other countries, but right makes only a small part of what these countries want to buy.
