Steel Authority of India Limited provided all special-grade steel for INS Androth, which joined the Indian Navy on Monday. The public sector manufacturer delivered hot-rolled sheets and plates from its Bokaro, Bhilai, and Rourkela facilities for eight anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft corvettes built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. INS Androth represents the second vessel in the series after INS Arnala received its commission on June 18.
The state-owned company supplied 8,000 tonnes of critical-grade steel for warships INS Udaygiri and INS Himgiri, which entered service on August. SAIL's Special Plate Plant at Rourkela has manufactured more than 100,000 tonnes of defense-grade steel for tanks, warships, and missiles. The manufacturer maintains partnerships with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited to reduce India's dependence on imported defense materials and advance the nation's self-reliance goals.
