Saleh Steps Up to Tame Unhinged Gen Muhoozi

General Salim Saleh promised to stop his nephew, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, from making dangerous social media threats. Muhoozi serves as Uganda's Chief of Defence Forces and recently threatened human rights officials and European Union diplomats. Saleh met with EU ambassadors in Gulu and admitted that his nephew causes problems with online posts. The uncle called Muhoozi an outside Gen-Z soldier who lacks a connection to military history. European diplomats worry about threats against people who criticize the government.

Muhoozi targeted the human rights commission leader Miriam Fauzat Wangadya after she demanded freedom for Eddie Mutwe. The general had bragged online about kidnapping and hurting Mutwe, who works as Bobi Wine's bodyguard. EU Ambassador Jan Sadek said these threats damage Uganda's reputation and create security concerns for diplomats. Saleh promised to bring Muhoozi under control but called him a nice guy. Former security chief David Pulkol criticized Muhoozi for using his high office to hurt citizens instead of uniting them.

Journalist Andrew Mwenda defended Muhoozi and accused European ambassadors of interfering with Uganda's internal affairs. He claimed opposition party members plan military uprisings rather than peaceful elections. Mwenda said intelligence agencies have proof that opponents send people to Kenya and Congo for military training. EU representatives maintained that Muhoozi's behavior hurts Uganda before the 2026 elections. Government officials must address this issue quickly to protect the country's image.
