Sanyatwe hails Coventry as Zimbabwe's golden icon

The Sports Ministry threw a dinner party Wednesday for Kirsty Coventry before she starts her big job running the International Olympic Committee. Minister Anselem Sanyatwe called her a golden girl who makes Zimbabwe proud. He praised her character and said she helps young athletes believe they can succeed. The dinner showed how much people respect what she has done for sports.

Coventry made history as the first person from Africa and the first woman picked to lead the Olympic group. She earned seven medals swimming at the Olympic Games between 2004 and 2012. Her collection includes two gold medals, four silver medals, and one bronze medal. These wins made her the top medal winner from the entire African continent.

Sanyatwe mentioned how Coventry sets an example with her hard work and sports values. He talked about her inspiring kids across Zimbabwe to chase their dreams. Her success shows what African athletes can achieve on the world stage. The new minister clearly admires what Coventry accomplished during her time leading the sports department.

Many important sports leaders came to celebrate Coventry at the special dinner. Gerald Mlotshwa from the Sport and Recreation Commission attended. Nqobile Magwizi, who runs Zimbabwe Football, also showed up. Others included Zimbabwe Olympic Committee boss Thabani Gonye plus boxing promoters Stalin Mau Mau and Lindsay Earle. Everyone gathered to wish Coventry luck as she takes her talents to the international level.
