Scaler Music has built a fresh version of its popular music software, Scaler 3. They completely remade it with cool additions like hosting VST/AU plugins, working with multiple tracks at once, and combining all performance features into a system called "Motions." The update adds many chord sets plus a standalone version that works alongside the usual VST2, VST3, Audio Units, and AAX formats.
You can browse through chord sets and build progressions by simply dragging and dropping chords. They include hundreds of sets organized by artist and mood. The program tells you which scales match your chords and suggests good next chords. Scaler 3 lets you load your favorite instrument and effect plugins right onto chord tracks and MIDI lanes - it handles both MIDI and audio effects for using your sounds directly in Scaler.
The new Arrange page comes with a timeline layout featuring separate lanes for chords, melody, bass, and phrases. These lanes sync with the main chord track, and you can adjust clips independently for each lane. Scaler 3 runs as a standalone app on Mac and Windows, apart from working inside your DAW, basically giving you a complete songwriting package with multitrack features and plugin hosting capabilities.
The Explore page helps you find chords outside standard scales, grouped by genre and feel like Dark, Bright, or Neutral. It recommends both compatible and experimental chord progressions, opening up harmonic paths you might never try otherwise. The Colors page shows all chord voicings and harmonic alternatives in one place, with quick access to parallel and relative chords plus various voicing and substitution options.
