Scooter Scofflaws Rack up 5408 Violations in Petersburg

St. Petersburg officials counted the number of people who broke the rules with electric scooters. The Parking Management Center shared these numbers with the public. Riders made 5408 mistakes during two months on city streets. Officials handed out 2567 fines for these problems. They warned 541 users about their bad riding habits. They also locked 147 user accounts for serious rule-breaking.

Most riders failed to stop at crosswalks when people walked there. This happened 4582 times across the city. The second worst problem came from multiple people riding one scooter together. Police spotted this dangerous activity 491 times during their checks. Another safety concern came from children using the scooters without adult help. Officers found 192 cases where kids rode these vehicles against the rules. The rest of the cases remain under review as officials look at the evidence.
