Scorchers score big with equal pay deal

Malawi will award each player on its women's national soccer team 1.5 million kwacha after the squad qualified for the 2026 Women's African Cup of Nations in Morocco. The Scorchers defeated Angola 2-0 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, with Faith Chimzimu scoring twice in consecutive minutes late in the match.

Football Association of Malawi President Fleetwood Haiya announced the organization will provide equal compensation to both the women's and men's national teams. He credited the players and coaching staff for their commitment and performance.

The Scorchers join 11 other nations in the continental tournament. Morocco, Zambia, Tanzania, Algeria, Nigeria, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Cape Verde, South Africa, and Senegal have also secured spots in the competition.
