Sean Combs begs for mercy, gets 50 months in New York

Sean "Diddy" Combs received a 50-month prison sentence on Friday after a federal judge ruled his crimes warranted significant punishment despite his acquittal on sex trafficking charges. The hip-hop mogul was convicted of transportation to engage in prostitution following an eight-week trial that featured graphic evidence of drug-fueled sex parties. Judge Arun Subramanian rejected defense requests for a 14-month sentence and noted that Combs had used his fame to harm his victims.

The 55-year-old rapper apologized to his family after the sentencing and told the court he took full responsibility for his actions. Six of his seven children asked the judge for leniency, but Subramanian said Combs' good works could not erase his criminal record. Prosecutors had sought an 11-year prison term for the music executive, who mouthed "I love you, I'm sorry" to his family before leaving the courtroom. Federal investigators plan to continue monitoring Combs as he serves his sentence at a Brooklyn detention facility.
