Senators Pledge Big Cash to Fix UTME Chaos

The Senate will fund the 2026 UTME budget to help students enter Nigerian higher education. Their Committee on Tertiary Institutions wants computer-based tests that meet international standards.

Committee chairman Senator Mohammed Muntari Dandutse visited Abuja testing sites during the current exams. He worried about missing test centers across many local government areas nationwide. If Nigeria wants students to study locally, they need better access to these entrance exams, he said.

The committee aims to place ICT centers throughout all 774 local governments. Dandutse noted that his Katsina district faces severe limitations, with only two centers serving eleven local areas. Senate members plan to work with House colleagues to secure money for these facilities next year.

JAMB spokesperson Dr. Fabian Benjamin told senators they currently operate 880 centers but need more coverage. The committee visited multiple exam sites during their tour. At Government Secondary School in Wuse, they praised JAMB for running smooth testing operations despite challenges.
