Seth Acheampong Calls Removal of Chief Justice Torkonoo a Political Script

A former government minister claims political forces drive efforts to remove Ghana's top judge from office. Seth Acheampong served as Eastern Regional Minister under the previous New Patriotic Party government. He believes officials coached people who filed complaints against Chief Justice Gertrude Esaaba Torkonoo. Acheampong spoke Thursday on Channel One TV about what he sees as planned attacks. The former minister warned that similar tactics could target current leaders when political control shifts.

Acheampong described the removal process as a rehearsed performance with scripted elements. He thinks petitioners received guidance about what to write against the Chief Justice. The former minister expressed concern about dangerous patterns forming within the political system. He reminded viewers that democratic power moves between different parties over time. Acheampong cautioned that today's actions could create problems for current officials later.

Chief Justice Torkonoo faces investigation through a special committee examining three separate petitions. The petitions call for her removal from the highest judicial position. Committee members will review allegations made against her professional conduct. Torkonoo has denied wrongdoing and challenged the accusations publicly. She maintains that petitioners either lied about her actions or misunderstood her judicial decisions.
