Shamim and Jaker rescue Bangladesh to 139-5 after top-order collapse vs Sri Lanka

Bangladesh reached 139 runs for five wickets against Sri Lanka during their Asia Cup encounter at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Charith Asalanka claimed the coin toss and elected to bowl first, while Bangladesh selected Shoriful Islam ahead of Taskin Ahmed. Both opening batsmen failed to score as Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Parvez Hossain Emon returned without runs. Wanindu Hasaranga dismissed Litton Das after the captain scored 28 runs from 26 deliveries. The spinner also removed Mahedi Hasan while Kamil Mishara ran out Tawhid Hridoy with a direct throw.

The team collapsed to 53 runs for five wickets before the final pair rescued the innings. Shamim Hossain and Jaker Ali combined for an undefeated partnership worth 86 runs from 61 balls. The batsmen applied measured tactics before attacking during the closing overs. Shamim remained 42 not out from 34 balls while Jaker finished 41 not out from 34 deliveries. Their stand lifted Bangladesh to a competitive total across the full 20 overs.
