Shannon Sharpe settles $50M sexual assault lawsuit

Attorney Tony Buzbee announced Friday that legal proceedings against Shannon Sharpe have concluded through settlement. The NFL Hall of Fame member and ESPN personality faced a $50 million lawsuit filed in April. The case centered on allegations of sexual assault and emotional distress from incidents during late 2024 and early 2025. Sharpe rejected all accusations as false and disruptive. He claimed Buzbee attempted extortion using a manipulated video recording.

Both parties recognized their complicated long-term relationship during negotiations. The settlement dismisses all claims with prejudice after respectful discussions. Defense attorney Lanny J. Davis presented text messages revealing role-play activities between the parties. Sharpe released a video statement proclaiming his innocence and suggesting racial motivation behind the accusations. The ESPN personality temporarily left his broadcasting position during legal proceedings but expects to resume television duties before NFL preseason begins.
