Shava hails ZIMDEF in Bulawayo

A government minister has commended the Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund for its strong corporate governance and financial management. Minister Frederick Shava stated that Zimdef's proper stewardship significantly supported national education goals under the National Development Strategy 1. He reported that the fund's efforts in 2025 led to the certification of over 33,000 artisans and technicians.

Minister Shava also highlighted a rise in STEM enrollment to nearly 45 percent, with female students comprising a third of that figure. He noted the registration of 16 student-led startups and the filing of more than 30 intellectual property rights. The minister attributed these achievements to Zimdef's role as a vital financier for national projects and skills development.

The official made these statements during a Zimdef strategic planning workshop in Bulawayo, which aims to develop a new five-year plan. He directed the organization to base its 2026-2030 strategy on pillars, including an export-led economy and digital transformation. Permanent Secretary Prof Fanuel Tagwira added that Zimdef acts as the ministry's resource mobilization arm, translating policy into measurable outcomes.
