Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir supporters dominated Jahangirnagar University student elections by capturing 20 positions from 25 available seats. Chief Election Commissioner Prof Dr Md Maniruzzaman announced the results at the Senate Hall during evening hours on the same day. The Somonnito Shikkharthi Jote panel secured major leadership roles while independent candidates claimed several key positions. Abdur Rasid Zitu won the Vice President position as an independent candidate from the Shotontro Shikkharthi Sommilon group. Mazharul Islam from the Shibir-backed coalition earned the General Secretary role.
Students cast ballots across 224 booths distributed among 21 voting centers on September 11. Election officials recorded 8,003 participants from 11,805 registered voters, achieving a 67.8 percent participation rate. The contest marked the first student union election at Jahangirnagar University after a 33-year gap. Previous elections took place between 1972 and 1992, prior to the extended suspension period. The university established its Central Students' Union one year after beginning academic operations in 1971.
