Shwedagon, Yangon pagodas glow for Thadingyut

Pilgrims filled major pagodas in Yangon on the Full Moon Day of Thadingyut, with large crowds gathering at the Shwedagon Pagoda. The Yangon Region Chief Minister, U Soe Thein, and regional ministers joined religious observances at the site. The Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees arranged alms donations, food offerings, prayer recitations, and precept ceremonies in honor of Abhidhamma Day and the Buddha Pujaniya Festival. In the evening, oil lamps were lit across the pagoda platform under the trustees' supervision.

Similar ceremonies were held at Botahtaung, Kaba Aye, Santawshin Kyaikwyne, Maha Wizaya, Sule, Sacred Tooth Relic, Lokachantha Abhaya Labhamuni, Ngahtetgyi, Chaukhtetkyee, Shwephonepwint, Eaindawya, and Meilamu pagodas. Pilgrims took the Nine Precepts from venerable Sayadaws and lit oil lamps as acts of devotion. Across Yangon, devotees marked the day by offering flowers, water, oil lamps, and alms at pagodas and stupas. Worshippers observed precepts and recited Abhidhamma prayers at various sacred sites throughout the city.
