Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 torches batteries, chasing Apple in Geekbench

Geekerwan released benchmark results for Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 engineering sample. The chip delivers unprecedented mobile performance but sacrifices power efficiency. Apple's A19 Pro maintains superior energy management across all tests. Qualcomm chose raw speed over battery optimization for this flagship processor.

Multi-core testing shows the Snapdragon chip scoring 12,546 points against the A19 Pro's 11,054. Single-core results favor Apple with 4,019 points compared to Qualcomm's 3,846 score. The new Snapdragon processor consumes 19.5 watts while Apple's silicon uses 12.1 watts. This represents a 61 percent increase in power draw for Qualcomm's solution.

Performance per watt calculations reveal Apple's significant advantage over competitors. The A19 Pro achieves 913.55 points per watt versus 643.38 for the Snapdragon. Apple demonstrates 42 percent better efficiency than Qualcomm's latest offering. MediaTek's Dimensity 9500 trails both processors with 595.33 points per watt.

Apple retains leadership in single-core performance and energy efficiency despite Qualcomm's multi-core gains.
