People in St Petersburg borrow a lot from payday lenders. The city ranks high among places where residents use microfinance companies. Moscow leads the country with the largest loan amounts. Financial analysts at Webbankir looked at more than 50,000 loans given between January and March 2025. They found Moscow residents asked for about 13,973 rubles on average when short on cash.
Krasnodar came in second place with residents requesting 13,966 rubles from these lenders. St Petersburg people borrowed slightly less at 13,649 rubles per loan. The study showed interesting differences between what people asked for and what they received. In Moscow and St Petersburg, lenders gave about 11% less than requested. Krasnodar residents faced a bigger gap of over 15% between what they wanted and what they got. Many St Petersburg residents started looking for extra jobs because their regular pay does not cover all their needs.
