Zimbabwe Sables Out to Wreck Zambezi Series

Zimbabwe rugby leaders have picked 40 local players for the upcoming Zambezi Series against Zambia and Botswana next month. The first match happens May 4 at Harare Sports Club, where the Sables face Zambia before taking on Botswana. These games start their international season.

Team manager Takunda Chifokoyo sees strong dedication from the squad. He noted local players worked hard since January after their November break. The team looks forward to playing before home crowds during what they call the Battle of the Zambezi.

The Sables aim to defend their Rugby Africa Cup title when they compete in Uganda this July. That tournament serves as a direct qualifier for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia. Only one African team will advance to the world competition.

Dion Khumalo stands out as a new vice-captain. His quick rise from the under-20 program shows how well Zimbabwe develops young talent. Musicians Bryan K and Gemma Griffiths will perform the national anthem as a duet during the Harare match.

The full squad includes 40 players across all positions, with Hilton Mudariki serving as captain. Aiden Burnett and Kudzai Mashawi are additional vice-captains.
