Storm Claudia kills Briton in Portugal

An 85-year-old British woman died after an extreme wind storm struck a campsite in Portugal's Algarve region. The incident at the Albufeira Camping Park also left two people with serious injuries and three with minor wounds. A nearby hotel reported 23 minor injuries.

Portugal's national meteorological office stated that radar images indicated a very high likelihood of a tornado, though confirmation was pending. The storm caused significant damage at the campsite, including fallen trees and damaged vehicles. Among the total injured across both locations were six children.

Portugal's Prime Minister, Luis Montenegro, expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased. The country, along with parts of Spain, has been affected by Storm Claudia, which previously caused two fatalities in Lisbon due to flooding. Several southern regions in Portugal remained under an orange weather warning.
