Stray dog bites Kenyan official at Para Athletics meet

Organizers at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium implemented enhanced safety protocols after a stray dog bit a Kenyan official at the World Para Athletics Championships 2025. Municipal Corporation of Delhi dispatched two dog-catching teams to remove all stray animals from the venue, and the dogs were transferred to shelter facilities for care and rehabilitation. Authorities sanitized affected areas in partnership with civic agencies to maintain hygiene standards and prevent future incidents.

The organizing committee had requested MCD intervention in August to address stray dog concerns at the stadium premises. The Supreme Court ordered Delhi-NCR civic bodies on Aug. 22 to capture and relocate stray dogs to shelters over rabies concerns. The court later modified its directive to allow releasing sterilized and immunized dogs, excluding those with rabies or aggressive tendencies.
