A traditional chief in Sunyani told a teachers' conference that parents need to stop dumping all the responsibility on schools since kids spend way more time at home than in classrooms. Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II was speaking at the National Association of Graduate Teachers gathering, where he basically said moms and dads are the first trainers, and educators can't magically undo 16 hours of bad parenting in an 8-hour school day.
The chief also pushed for better safety protections for teachers, while complimenting NAGRAT for choosing talks over strikes when dealing with workplace issues. He wants the Ghana Education Service to handle teacher misconduct cases faster and more consistently.
The regional minister and deputy education minister showed up to the event along with other local officials.
