Supermassive delays Directive 8020 to 2026 after new layoffs

Supermassive Games eliminated 36 positions from its workforce this week. The developer explained these reductions help the company adjust its organizational framework amid ongoing industry challenges. Company executives emphasized their commitment to providing comprehensive assistance for displaced workers during this transition period. The studio previously reduced staff by one-third during February 2024 due to similar market pressures. Management described the recent decision as extremely difficult but necessary for operational sustainability.

Directive 8020 faces a significant schedule change from its planned October 2025 launch. The survival horror title will arrive during the first half of 2026 instead. Developers expressed gratitude for positive early reactions to the game and believe additional development time will enhance the final product. Little Nightmares III maintains its October 10, 2025 release date without disruption. Studio representatives confirmed the workforce reduction will not affect this upcoming project's completion timeline.
