Sureties Face Jail in Kayanja Sodomy Scandal

A court ordered police to arrest three people who promised that Moses Tumwine would show up for trial. Magistrate Adams Byarugaba approved this Monday after prosecutor Jonathan Muwaganya asked for help. Tracy Namugga, Patrick Ayebare, and Abdul Kayondo failed their duty as guarantors.

The judge also wants police to find Tumwine himself, who ran away from court. The trial will go ahead without him present. Tumwine belongs to a group of nine people accused of lying about pastor Robert Kayanja doing bad things to men.

The other people must defend themselves against claims that they entered Rubaga Miracle Cathedral to bother Kayanja. Martin Kagoro started telling his story about working at the church with guns, but the judge told him to stick to the current charges. All this started in September 2021 when these people allegedly gave wrong information to police officer Cotilda Nandutu.

Kayanja denied everything last October. He blamed rival pastor Jackson Ssenyonga for making up stories about him. He reminded the court that similar false stories had happened before with light punishments. Kayanja wants stronger punishment this time.
