Police arrested a woman for hitting and killing a famous real estate agent on Long Island. Sara Burack worked on a Netflix show about expensive beach houses and died from her injuries Thursday night. The 40-year-old victim was walking along Montauk Highway when Amanda Kempton struck her with a car. Kempton left Burack on the roadside and drove away without calling for help. Someone found Burack lying unconscious around 2:45 in the morning near a restaurant.
Doctors at Stony Brook University Hospital tried to save Burack but she passed away that same day. The crash caused serious damage to her head, brain and liver along with a broken leg. Kempton told police she thought she had hit a traffic cone because of heavy fog that night. The 32-year-old Virginia woman discovered a large pink suitcase stuck under her vehicle when she got to a friend's house. She had been drinking at a local bar earlier but her lawyer says alcohol did not cause the accident.
Police used license plate cameras to track down Kempton's damaged car at her family's home. Officers arrested her Friday and charged her with leaving the scene of a deadly crash. A judge set her bail at $100,000 which her relatives paid Saturday morning. Kempton could spend up to seven years in prison if found guilty. Burack sold luxury homes for well-known companies and appeared on the popular Netflix series about Hampton real estate deals.
