Switch 2 Dock Mode Drops VRR Option

Nintendo removed mention of Variable Refresh Rate support for TV mode from their Switch 2 console descriptions on US and Canadian websites. The previous text stated the system would support HDR, VRR, and frame rates up to 120 fps when connected to compatible TVs. The current description keeps HDR and 120 fps claims but eliminates VRR. The British website still displays the original text with VRR included, creating confusion among fans. Game enthusiasts worry this change suggests docked mode might lack the important feature that helps create smooth gameplay experiences at 4K resolution.

Handheld mode remains unaffected because it includes NVIDIA G-SYNC through its DisplayPort 1.4 connection. Some people think VRR capabilities might disappear during conversion from DisplayPort to HDMI output needed for TV play. Nintendo has also announced that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom games will not work with cloud save backup through Nintendo Switch Online premium membership. Players can transfer existing saves from original Switch consoles, but cannot make new cloud saves for these specific games. Mario Kart World information will come later today during a special Direct presentation from Nintendo.
