Tagwirei Accuses Kasukuwere and Biti of Deep-Rooted Corruption in Bulawayo

A top party official accused two former government leaders of corruption during a public event. Kudakwashe Tagwirei spoke at a land conference in Bulawayo on Wednesday. He called Saviour Kasukuwere and Tendai Biti corrupt but gave no specific details. Tagwirei serves on the ZANU PF Central Committee. He claimed both men committed serious wrongdoing.

Tagwirei said he follows President Emmerson Mnangagwa's leadership style. The president focuses on building the country rather than attacking people. Tagwirei believes those who talk most about corruption are often the most corrupt themselves. He praised Mnangagwa for speaking about his vision instead of criticizing individuals. The party member said he learns from the president's approach.

The United States placed sanctions on Tagwirei in August 2020. American officials accused him of helping Zimbabwe's leadership through unclear business deals. His company Sakunda Holdings received preferential treatment from the government. Treasury officials said he enriched political leaders at the expense of transparency. The sanctions target his alleged support for corrupt practices.

Sakunda Holdings managed the Command Agriculture program that received over three billion dollars. A parliamentary investigation in 2019 found much of the money could not be tracked. Tagwirei allegedly gave luxury cars to top officials. He also had special access to American dollars during Zimbabwe's economic crisis. The investigation raised serious questions about financial oversight.
