Poonawalla accuses TMC of violence and corruption in Bengal

BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Wednesday accused the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal of fostering political violence and corruption while the state struggles with floods and landslides. Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, he said the TMC had failed the people as natural disasters claimed more than 35 lives and displaced over 50,000 residents in North Bengal.

Poonawalla alleged that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee continued to celebrate publicly while citizens suffered. He claimed that Trinamool workers attacked three BJP leaders from the tribal community in the past 24 hours, including MP Khagen Murmu, who is in intensive care after a violent assault.

He said political violence had become institutionalized in West Bengal and questioned the state’s law and order when elected representatives were not safe. Poonawalla also criticized Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for what he called selective outrage, pointing to Priyanka Gandhi’s silence on attacks against tribal leaders.

He further cited the arrest of Telangana Congress leader Naveen Yadav for alleged voter ID fraud as evidence of corruption within the Congress party. Poonawalla said this reflected the true character of the opposition alliance, which he accused of ignoring violence and misconduct in states governed by its members.
