Takunda Mutizwa leads Zimbabwe's medal haul at CAA youth championships in Abeokuta

Zimbabwe secured five medals at the continental track and field championships held in Abeokuta over five days. The MKO Abiola Sports Arena hosted athletes from more than 40 African nations during this development competition. Takunda Mutizwa delivered the team's standout achievement by winning gold in the Under 18 triple jump with a 14.96-meter performance. Tatenda Chindowa earned silver after clearing 2.03 meters in the Under 18 men's high jump event. The medal tally reached completion when Elvis Hwata claimed silver in Under 20 pole vault by clearing 4.30 meters.

Relay squads contributed significantly to Zimbabwe's medal collection with strong performances across multiple events. The Under 20 men's 4x100-meter team secured silver while the mixed 4x400-meter quartet earned bronze medals. Unfortunately, two other relay teams faced disqualification despite finishing in medal positions due to exchange zone violations. Young sprinter Ropafadzo Mzondo advanced to finals in both 200-meter and 400-meter races. Coach Silas Muringani expressed satisfaction with the team's overall results from their 40-athlete delegation.
