Four students from the Gambia Tourism and Hospitality Institute are going to an exciting cooking competition in Morocco. The event, which runs from April 8 to April 12, 2025, will bring together young chefs from around the world.
The competition helps students learn about cooking and hospitality jobs. Students will show off their skills in different areas, such as kitchen cooking, pastry making, baking, serving food, and making coffee drinks.
The Gambian team has four students: Muhammed Jarra, Rohey Jobe, Hassan Demba, and Ousman Camara. Their trainer, Peter Mendy, is going with them to help and support the team. They will compete against students from Morocco, France, Italy, Canada, Tunisia, and Senegal.
Peter Mendy explained that this is the first time GTHI is competing on an international stage. The students were chosen carefully after a tough selection process. They hope to win two or three awards and make their country proud.
The competition has different categories, such as making appetizers, cooking main courses, serving food, and setting up restaurant spaces. The students are excited and want to show how good they are at cooking and working in restaurants.
