Three gunmen attacked Choppies supermarket in Bulawayo's New Luveve area on Saturday night. They shot and hurt a manager and a guard before running away with stolen money.
Street sellers near the store first thought someone was playing with firecrackers at 8 PM. "We heard bangs in the dark. We yelled at who we thought lit them," said a woman vendor who stayed unnamed. "Then we learned they were real guns. We ran fast."
A worker saw what happened inside. The robbers shot three times. One bullet hit the store manager's head. "They stuck a knife in a guard's leg twice," the worker said. The men asked for the safe keys over and over. After they got cash from the day's sales, they walked toward Cowdray Park. "We think they hid their car somewhere," added the worker.
The store opened as usual the next morning. Top leaders came to inspect the place, and police started investigating the crime.
