Tourism Bill Throws Industry Into Turmoil

Zimbabwe's cabinet passed new tourism laws Tuesday. Information Minister Jenfan Muswere announced the Tourism Amendment Bill 2025 after the meeting. The government wants to fix problems and bring more visitors to the country. Officials believe stronger rules will help the tourism business grow. The new laws follow the constitution and focus on fair treatment for everyone.

The bill creates a Tourism Council to watch over money from the Zimbabwe Tourism Fund. Tourism companies must register with authorities or face shutdown. Online booking websites must also sign up with the government. The law requires all tourism businesses to share visitor numbers and other data. Companies that refuse to pay fees will face civil penalties.

The changes promote gender equality and give more people access to tourism jobs. Leaders want the industry to follow good governance practices. The bill strengthens how officials regulate hotels and tour companies. Government aims to make Zimbabwe more competitive against other African countries. The new rules should attract international tourists and boost the economy.
