A log-laden trailer struck a passenger van on the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway, killing two people and injuring ten others. The victims were a seven-year-old boy and an adult woman who died when the heavy vehicle lost control. Emergency teams extracted several passengers trapped beneath the overturned trailer after the collision with the 14-seater matatu.
Authorities transported the deceased to Nakuru city Mortuary while redirecting traffic through the Njoro interchange. Residents have repeatedly requested the construction of a service lane along the problematic stretch of road. The highway lacks proper staging areas for public transport vehicles, residents said.
This latest fatality adds to a series of deadly crashes across the region. Seven people perished in April when a matatu veered off the Nakuru-Nairobi highway at Kamandura junction. Another seven died at Kijauri junction on the Kisii-Sotik highway earlier this month, bringing recent accident deaths to fourteen people.
