Trump Signs Order Freezing Aid to South Africa

Former U.S. President Donald Trump signed an order that stopped financial help to South Africa. The move comes after Trump's earlier warnings about South Africa's new land rules and its court case against Israel.

Trump brought in the order saying South Africa breaks people's rights through its land law. He also pointed to South Africa's genocide case against Israel at the World Court. Trump had made claims, without proof, that South Africa "takes land" and treats "certain groups" badly.

South Africa fired back strongly. The nation's leaders called it "lies and false news meant to hurt our great country." They added that Trump missed the deep pain of their past under colonial rule and apartheid.

Elon Musk stepped into the fight. The South African-born business leader and Trump adviser went on X to question President Cyril Ramaphosa about what he termed "racist ownership laws."

Ramaphosa stayed firm on South Africa's land plans. He stated clearly that his government had not taken any land. Their aim, he said, was fair land use for all people.

The fresh law lets South Africa take land without paying in special cases. Most private farms belong to white owners, even three decades after apartheid ended. Many citizens want the government to fix unfair land ownership from the past racial divide.

Under the new rules, land can be taken without payment if it helps the public good. This includes empty land with no plans for use or places that might harm people.

Trump's order stated America "cannot back South Africa's rights violations." It promised to stop aid until these "unfair and wrong acts" end.

The White House plans to help South African farmers move to America as refugees. U.S. officials will also make it easier for Afrikaners—white people with Dutch and French roots—to settle in the United States.

The order brought up South Africa's court case about Israel as well. It said South Africa works against America's friends by blaming Israel instead of Hamas for genocide. The order also mentioned South Africa making new deals with Iran for trade, weapons, and nuclear work.
