TSMC sues former exec over alleged trade secret leaks to Intel

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company has launched legal proceedings against its former senior vice president, Wei-Jen Lo, after his departure to rival Intel, alleging breach of employment agreements and potential theft of trade secrets related to advanced 2-nanometer manufacturing processes. The foundry giant claims Lo failed to disclose his Intel recruitment and falsely indicated he would pursue academic work, raising concerns that proprietary packaging and fabrication data could reach American competitors.

Intel chief executive Lip-Bu Tan has dismissed the accusations as unfounded while affirming respect for intellectual property rights. The dispute carries strategic implications beyond semiconductor technology, as Lo's Arizona presence could strengthen Intel's domestic foundry ambitions by leveraging his intimate knowledge of client demands and advanced packaging methodologies that previously drove TSMC's manufacturing dominance.
