Turbi Cops in Crisis After Officer Found Dead

Police found an officer dead, hanging from a tree near his home in Turbi, Marsabit County, early Sunday morning. He had recently returned to duty after spending time in rehab, according to his fellow officers. Investigators discovered no suicide note at the scene. They moved his body to the Marsabit Referral Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

This death adds to the growing number of police suicides nationwide, with about three cases reported monthly. Many link these deaths to job stress faced daily on the force. The National Police Service Commission has started counseling services to help officers cope with mental health issues. Their new unit aims to prevent mental health problems through special outreach programs.

Police officials say officers handle all community problems under difficult conditions that put their lives at risk. The World Health Organization attributes suicide to various causes - job loss, death of loved ones, academic pressure, money troubles, bullying, past suicide attempts, family history of suicide, substance abuse, depression, or bipolar disorder.
