Two Cops Go Viral Over Bribe Video

Two Zimbabwe Republic Police officers faced criminal charges after a viral video showed them accepting bribes from illegal money changers. Officers Rudo Chirengendure and Michael Nyasha Mupandira appeared before regional magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa and were remanded in custody pending bail considerations.

The state alleged the officers were deployed to patrol and arrest illegal vendors at the Parkade rank near Nelson Mandela and Rezende streets. During their patrol, they were captured on camera receiving money to release a handcuffed female suspect, directly violating their professional duties as public officers.

State prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti represented the case, with Luckson Mhara from ZRP Harare Central Operations serving as the complainant. The viral video documented the officers' misconduct, leading to their immediate legal proceedings and potential disciplinary action.
