Rajiv Ruparelia never made it to his friend Jonathan Buteera's wedding, where he planned to speak. He died in a car crash on his way to the celebration. Rajiv belonged to the wedding party for Jonathan, whose father served as the former Deputy Chief Justice. His body was cremated the same day, following Hindu customs.
Jonathan shared their last message at the funeral, and Rajiv asked about the speech protocol for the wedding. Their friendship started during yoga class, when both fell asleep during meditation. They woke up with red eyes, laughed together, and became close friends from that moment on.
Jonathan described how Rajiv admired his father, Sudhir, but loved his wife, Naiya, and daughter, Inara, most of all. He talked about them constantly. Rajiv told Jonathan about taking Inara to the playground swings just before his death. He also enjoyed time with his sisters, Meera and Sheena, during their recent London trip. He cared deeply for their children as well.
His last trip should have celebrated his friend's new life chapter. Instead, it became a sad reminder of life's short nature.
