Uganda Chases Victoria Cup Victory in Kenya

Uganda and Kenya are set to reignite their legendary sporting rivalry through an epic golf showdown at Mt. Kipipiri Golf Resort in Naivasha. The Victoria Cup tournament promises another heart-pounding clash between these East African neighbors, who have a history of nail-biting competitions that keep fans on the edge of their seats.

Defending champions Kenya will face a determined Ugandan squad led by experienced captain Joseph Cwinya-ai. The ten-member team includes a blend of seasoned players and promising junior golfers like Joseph Reagan Akena, Elton Thembo, and John Musiimenta. Three team members have already arrived early to compete in the Kenya Amateur Golf series and acclimate to local conditions.

National sports officials are enthusiastically backing the team. Acting assistant NCS general secretary Sarah Chelangat expressed rock-solid confidence during the team's sendoff, emphasizing the government's full financial support. The Minister of Education and Sports and First Lady Mama Janet Museveni have been closely following the upcoming international challenge.

Cwinya-ai remains bullish about Uganda's chances, declaring they can match Kenya punch-for-punch. With national pride at stake, the team departs Wednesday accompanied by national team coach Flavia Namakula and team manager Paul Habyarimana. Their three-day tournament kicks off March 20, promising another chapter in the storied Uganda-Kenya sporting rivalry.
