Uganda Kenya Team Up to Slash Flood Havoc

Uganda and Kenya finished their first joint meeting about making cities stronger. Leaders from both countries met for three days at Busia to talk about weather problems and city disasters. The United Nations helped organize the event with money from Korea, Luxembourg and Denmark. Officials came from many government departments to work together on shared challenges.

Climate change hurts both countries around the border areas. Floods happen often because drainage systems cannot handle heavy rains. People cut down forests and build on wetlands which makes flooding worse. Diseases like cholera spread through dirty water after storms hit the region.

The mayors and government workers agreed to create better plans together. They want to build stronger warning systems before disasters strike. Both sides promised to write new rules that work across the border. The meeting ended with commitments to find more money and technical help for building projects.
