Ugandan businessman remanded over forged government letter

TL;DR: Ugandan businessman Male Nicholus faces charges of forgery for attempting to influence a government ferry contract.

Male Nicholus, a Ugandan entrepreneur, has been remanded to Luzira Prison following his appearance in court on charges of forgery and using false documents. Prosecutors allege that Male created a fake letter, supposedly from President Yoweri Museveni, directing the Ministry of Works and Transport to extend Nation Oil Distributors Limited's (NODL) contract for the MV Kalangala ferry. This document was reportedly presented to several government bodies and NODL in an attempt to sway decisions regarding the ferry's operation.

The investigation, led by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) in collaboration with the Uganda Police, revealed that Male falsely claimed connections to senior government officials to gain trust from NODL. The fraudulent scheme aimed to secure money or favors from the company. Male remains in custody pending his next court appearance on November 17, 2025.
