Uttar Pradesh cut air-conditioned bus fares by 10 percent on Wednesday ahead of Dussehra and Diwali celebrations. The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation will maintain reduced rates across Janrath, Pink, Shatabdi, Volvo and sleeper services until officials announce otherwise. Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh said the discount excludes buses registered after January 1, 2024.
Fares dropped to 1.45 rupees per kilometer on 3x2 buses, 1.60 rupees on 2x2 services, 2.30 rupees on Volvo coaches and 2.10 rupees on sleeper routes. The state government will counsel drivers and conductors to attract additional riders and protect revenue. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised the state for achieving the lowest rate of crimes against women despite having the largest population in India.
