Vumbunu sisters denied bail in armed robbery case

A judge just denied bail to three women tied to a notorious crime clan. Sekai Vumbunu, Georgina Vumbunu, and Florence Chisiri appeared before Justice Mpoengseni Dube seeking release. The court dismissed their application, ruling the trio played a central role in violent armed robberies around Bulawayo. Justice Dube stated they masterminded operations that left victims traumatized and financially ruined.

The judge said they supplied information to armed gangs, demonstrating direct participation in the crimes. This collaboration with robbers caused unnecessary suffering to the public. Dube added they posed a clear danger to society, requiring their detention to protect the community. The three were remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings.

State prosecutor Tarisai Mutarisi outlined the allegations against them. The group is accused of illegal foreign currency dealing and planning specific heists. They allegedly provided details leading to a robbery where a woman lost over twenty-three thousand dollars and wedding rings. Another incident involved a bureau de change losing a significant sum of local and foreign currency.

Detectives from the Homicide Section conducted investigations leading to arrests. A suspect named Nekimiya Dladla implicated the women and others following his detention. Their arrests have renewed focus on the wider Vumbunu family network. This group gained national notoriety for major crimes, including a large bank heist.

Brothers Elijah and Abraham Vumbunu, called the terror twins, are key figures. They face allegations for a multimillion-dollar Ecobank robbery executed with precision. Their criminal history includes gold heists, carjackings, and violent home invasions spanning decades. Abraham had recently finished a long prison sentence before reportedly rejoining his brother.

The twins were arrested in South Africa through a joint police operation. They currently await extradition proceedings related to their alleged crimes. The extended family remains under scrutiny for involvement in organized criminal activities across the region. This case highlights ongoing legal actions against the alleged network.
