Warri keke riders fight sticker price hike

Tricycle drivers across Warri in Delta State stopped working because they refused to pay the new higher prices for stickers. These stickers, which used to cost ₦3,000, jumped up to ₦12,000, according to angry drivers. Many citizens found themselves walking far distances when these commercial drivers parked their vehicles during the protest. The drivers claim that fake government officials actually run this sticker scheme.

Protesters took over main streets throughout Warri with signs demanding Governor Sheriff Oborevwori fix the problem. Messages on their signs asked the governor to control his people and stop adding to their hardships. The drivers sang together as they blocked traffic, making clear they wouldn't accept these new charges from people they called extortionate touts.

A driver named Efevogho talked to DAILY POST near Okumagba Avenue about their struggles. He asked how they could afford such high fees, given their daily earnings. Another driver, Eguonoghene, begged the governor to step in and ease their suffering at the hands of these collectors.

The national group ISRCA, through its coordinator, Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen, urged quick action from the state government. They pointed out that most Nigerians already face economic challenges from rising prices everywhere. The group believes Delta State should bring back transit systems like those under former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, which later ended during Ifeanyi Okowa's term.

ISRCA called for Delta State leaders to use this opportunity to create standard transportation pricing. They emphasized that helping tricycle drivers serves the public since many residents depend on these vehicles daily. The group stressed that driving tricycles remains one of few available jobs for locals trying to make ends meet, making government intervention necessary.
