Watoto Church will present its annual Christmas Cantata at Old Kampala Senior Secondary School playground, relocating from its traditional Downtown sanctuary to accommodate expanding crowds. The production, titled Son of God, combines musical performances, theatrical elements, and audiovisual presentations to depict the nativity story for audiences exceeding 50,000 attendees.
Pastor Graham Tugume explained that the outdoor format eliminates capacity constraints and reduces wait times while maintaining free admission as a community offering. More than 1,000 performers and technical staff will participate in what organizers describe as one of East Africa's largest creative endeavors.
The church will also introduce The City's Carols Night, featuring multiple choirs and the illumination of what planners expect to become Africa's tallest Christmas tree. Donations collected during performances will support vulnerable children through Watoto's ongoing charitable programs. Pastor Edward Mwesigye confirmed that comprehensive safety protocols have been established for the outdoor venue.
