The title of this thread says it all. I will just add to say how is the ancient Egyptian trinity sometimes thought to be similar to a Christian trinity.
The reason I said Shiva is the Transformer is that most Hindus believe in the idea of death as a beginning of a new life on a spiritual dimension and finally back again on an earthly dimension.
You also have got to know that in this context Shiva is chiefly responsible for closing the final chapter of every individual so that's that. I hope this clarifies my point.
So here is what you may want to learn about Hinduism in layman terms:
Vishnu is Brahm's manifestation as a god in a preservative form.
Shiva is Brahm's manifestation as a god in a destructive form.
Brahma is Brahm's manifestation as a god in a creative form.
Most importantly Brahm's existence is henceforth considered to be beyond the comprehension of a finite/mortal soul. In other words, Brahm is All-embracing, Unknown and Unknowable.
