DRC (i.e., dynamic range compression) but tailored for vocals. For example, dynamic range compression is a typical way to level the vocals so that they get less buried in the mix, but it removes dynamic range.
Plugins won't do anything for the vocal if it's not sung properly and recorded with the right mic in the right room or space. Sitting in the mix, however, could mean you need to turn everything down but the vocal.
